Frequently Asked Questions
CAS letter means a Confirmation of Acceptance of Study (CAS) letter. It is a unique identification number issued by UKVI to a student who has been accepted to study for more than six months. The CAS letter is an important document required to apply for a student visa.
The CAS letter contains important details such as the student’s personal information, details of the course they have been accepted, the course start and end dates, the tuition fees, and any scholarships or funding awarded to the student. Additionally, it includes information about the licensed sponsor institution and statements regarding the student’s proficiency in the English language etc.
Students must have a CAS letter before they can apply for a Tier 4 (General) student visa to study in the UK. The CAS is used as part of the visa application process to demonstrate that the student has an offer to study at a legitimate institution and meets the necessary requirements for entry clearance into the UK for study purposes.
Generally, a CAS letter is valid for a specific period leading up to the start of the academic program for which it was issued. Typically, it remains valid for around six months. However, this duration can vary depending on the policies of the educational institution and the specific requirements of the visa application process.
Universities issue CAS letters to student’s after:
- they have been offered and have accepted an unconditional offer to study a full-time course that is longer than six months in duration.
- The issuance of CAS letters usually occurs once all necessary conditions of the offer such as providing proof of qualifications (10th & 12th documents, Graduation mark sheet, job experience, Passport etc) and meeting any English language requirements, have been met by the student (IELTS/PTE).
- Deposit like 50% of tution fees/ 2000GBP
- Bank Details for last 28 days
- Bank certificate certified by bank that fund is maintained in last 28 days
Some universities may have specific processing timelines outlined on their website or communicated to students upon receiving an offer of admission. Normally within 10 working days university issues CAS.
